Storm damage still an issue on Alsea Hwy 34

From ODOT

Oregon Highway 34 (Alsea Highway) is experiencing a lane restriction and rough road conditions after last week’s powerful storm.

The highway is reduced to two lanes at milepost 49, between Philomath and Alsea, where a portion of the roadway has been claimed by the Alsea River.  The restriction may last for several weeks.

There is a climbing lane at that location, so traffic can still be accommodated in both directions at this time.  That condition may change unexpectedly if additional roadway is compromised.

CORVALLIS, Ore-- Behind 18-points from Jake Ehlers, the Corvallis Spartans beat the Silverton Foxes 61-51 on Tuesday night to remain unbeaten in the Mid-Willamette league.

The Spartans jumped out to an early 13-4 lead when Henry Parker stole the ball and finished it in on the other end.

Silverton kept things close though, thanks to Zach Gengler who led all scorers with 24 points.

Corvallis finally pulled away in the fourth when Ehlers hit a turn-around jumper.

Take health precautions after the flood

From Benton County

The Benton County Health Department is receiving reports of basement flooding in some residences.

Often the source of this flooding is from sewage or combined storm water systems that have become overwhelmed because of regional flooding. It is best to assume that any flood water may contain dangerous bacteria or chemicals. If possible avoid contact with flood water. If you must work in flood waters wear boots, gloves and protective clothing to offer increased protection. Wash with soap and water as soon as possible after exposure to reduce your risk of becoming ill.

Woman rescued from roof of car in flooded field

MONROE, Ore. - Deputies rescued a woman from the roof of her Ford Mustang after the car got swept 300 feet off a flood road into a farm field Friday morning.

The 35-year-old woman climbed on the roof of the car and called 911.

Marine Patrol Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene with members of the Monroe Fire Department.  Marine Deputies got to the victim using a boat and rescued her from the roof. She was not injured.

The driver got in trouble when she drove into 4 feet of water on 25378 Old River Road, submerging her Ford Mustang beyond the door handles, the sheriff's office said.

Once in the water, the flood waters swept her car 300 feet off the road into a farm field.

If you encounter high water, do not drive into the water, public safety officials said. The depth of water can not be judged and it takes only about 18 inches of water to cause most cars to float.

Driving into high water also causes drivers and their vehicles to become stranded.

S. 3rd/99W again open to traffic

From the City of Corvallis

South Third Street (Highway 99W) in Corvallis has reopened to traffic, one lane in each direction. One lane on Highway 34 near Milepost 47 also has been reopened to one lane for emergency traffic.

During the closure at South Third Street in South Corvallis, traffic had been rerouted along Crystal Lake Drive. Water levels appear to be receding. The Willamette River is not expected to reach flood stage and the Marys and Luckiamute rivers already have peaked. Even though flooding appears to be less of a risk, high winds tonight through tomorrow morning could knock over trees, possibly taking out trees and causing power outages. Landslides also are possible. McDonald-Dunn Forest has been closed until further notice.
